    ARTS IN OUR COMMUNITIES Regrant

    2008 Guidelines

    Grant Amounts: $1,000-$3,000

    GOAL: To support artists as they create art about the immigrant/refugee experience, and to find a platform for these artists to share their work with the wider community and involve the community in the creative process.

    The JPMorganChase Arts in Our Communities Regrant provides money to emerging musicians, writers, performers, filmmakers, dancers, or visual artists who demonstrate outstanding achievements regarding the immigrant and refugee experience. The grant will culminate in a public display or performance of the artist’s work. As part of the grant, the Council on the Arts and Humanities will help find a venue and assist with marketing the public display or performance.

    Who May Apply: To be eligible for the JPMorganChase Arts in Our Communities Regrant, the applicant must meet all the criteria listed below:

    · Applicant must live in Staten Island.

    · Applicant must be at least 18 years old.

    · Applicant must not be a full-time student at the time of the application or grant period.

    · Both individuals and groups (such as dance groups, bands, & visual art collaborators) may apply.

    · Projects must take place in Staten Island.

    · Applicant must be in good standing for any grants previously received from COAHSI.

    Selection Process: A panel of artists and arts professionals will be convened to review the applications and select the grantees. Awards will be announced early October 2008.

    Criteria:

    · Artistic merit and cultural significance.

    · Artist has clear and realistic goals.

    · For musicians, original work (in contrast to covers)
    will be given preference.

    · Exhibition, program, or cultural activity must be

    accessible to the public and must take place between

    October 1, 2008 and December 31, 2008

    Grantee Responsibilities:

    · Grantees must notify COAHSI of any change in contact information.

    · Grantees must submit a final report no later than January 30, 2009.

    · Grantees must include the appropriate mention of support, crediting Council on the Arts & Humanities for Staten Island (COAHSI) and JPMorganChase in all publicity, products, and program material relating to the grant and whenever corporate support is mentioned.
