All events are Free and Open to the Public.  Please bring your own lawn chair for seating.

Wednesday, June 10, noon – Concert – Richmond County Orchestra is hosting the very popular SI Ska Band “Not from Concentrate” who will play music by Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Michael Jackson. Presented by Richmond County Orchestra’s student mentoring and educational out reach program, featuring a number of local Staten Island schools.

Saturday, June 27 – noon – Hip Hop Chess – sponsored by Bobby Digi and Island Voice. Chess in the Park for beginners, learn the art of chess with Hip Hop legend Bobby Digi and associates.  This event has been presented in a number of major U.S. cities and NOW presented in Tappen Park.

CityParks Kids Programs: Open to the public and a great opportunity for Day Care/Camp Class Trips, pre-school through 3rd grade. Friday, July 10 at 10:30 am Don’t miss a bilingual puppet show of the classic fairy tale Alice In Wonderland performed by Patty Cakes Puppetry. Friday, July 17 at 10:30am Scat along with Jazz-A-Ma-Tazz as saxophone player Hayes Greenfield and his trio take you on an interactive journey through jazz that includes scat singing, call and response, rhythmic exploration, and improvisation. Friday, July 24 at 10:30am Queen Nur tells multicultural stories  with interactive call and response, music, and an educational aspect.

Friday, August 7 at 7pm The Metropolitan Opera will host one of six summertime recitals at Tappen Park. Performing at the recital are Joyce El-Khoury, soprano; Keith Miller, bass; Vlad Iftinca, pianist; hosted by Damon Gupton.  City Parks Foundation partnered with The Met earlier this year to bring free performances to parks in all five boroughs. Saturday, August 8 – Noon – International Dance Festival – Sponsored by Rose Kingston & Century Dance Complex. This program commemorates diversity in the world of dance.

Wednesday, August 26 at 7pm Rhythm Revue with Felix Hernandez: Felix Hernandez is in the business of remembering the good ol’ days. Hernandez’s wildly popular radio show, Rhythm Revue takes on a life of its own when three thousand disciples regularly gather at New York’s Roseland Ballroom, to boogie down as Fernandez spins the sounds of the past.

Saturday, September 19 – 2 pm  African Heritage Day Parade ENDS at Tappen Park. Activities for the entire family.  Sponsored by:  Island Voice

Saturday, October 17 1 – 4 pm OKTOBERFEST 2009 – Featuring Killmeyer’s Cafe in Tappen Park.  Happy Tones German Music, kids games, fall festival, pumpkins and fun activities for the entire family.  Admission is free.

Tuesday, December 10, 2009 – 10 am – noon – Wreath Making with Eco Friendly Father Green Earth.  Local schools and neighbors will be invited to participate in eco friendly wreath making.  All natural evergreens provided by the Staten Island Parks Department.
